Lockdown Hobbies

Like a lot of people, I am in lockdown for the virus and am on furlough from work.
So staying busy in a non challenging, non stressful way is key.
Here are some things that help keep me sane during this difficult time.

Futurelearn free online courses.
So many great, free courses especially in history. I am just starting one on the Scottish Clans and finished one on Paleography or how to read old documents. Its great for my CPD (Continued Professional Development).

Jigsaws
When I really can’t concentrate, getting into a fiendish jigsaw will pass many hours in a super focussed obsessive state, maybe with some tea and cake.

Cooking
I am experimenting a lot more with cooking; breadmaking, baking and using my slow cooker. Ordering unfamiliar meats from my local butcher to cook. Making more ambitious weekend breakfasts. Punctuate the day with tea and coffee.

Art and Crafts
My main art project centres around drawing very mundane places I see from the house or on my short walks. It is fun to find interest in the most apparently unexciting things.
My sewing progresses slowly but steadily, I have a stash of fabric and am making a summer maxi skirt with giant pockets to wear in the garden once the good weather returns (optimism).

Gardening
My new garden is a major new interest/obsession. I am growing veg and flowers from seed and plants from bare rootstock. Pruning, dividing, mowing all keep me busy. Seeing what unexpected plants emerge is an endless joy: what colour will the peony be?
